On Friday, May 28th Spring Arbor of Salisbury Assisted Living partnered with Village Bank to host a Memorial Day Cookout fundraiser for the Families of the Wounded Fund, Inc. All proceeds from the lunch were donated to the Families of the Wounded Fund, Inc, which totaled $3400.
Spring Arbor of Salisbury opened its doors to the heartfelt support of members from the community, including the Chesterfield County Fire Department, area churches, our surrounding neighborhood of Salisbury, Village Bank and their 15 local branches, the Knights of Columbus, St. John Neumann Church, benefactors of the Families of the Wounded Fund, area Chambers of Commerce, business professionals, friends, families, residents and staff. The enthusiasm everyone showed was overwhelming, and greatly appreciated by the President of the Families of the Wounded Fund, William Haneke; as well as, Tom Winfree, President of the Village Bank. Various members of the Board of Directors addressed the group during the lunch and gave an overview of the inception of the fund and its connection with the Village Bank. The outpouring of support and generosity of donations was overwhelmed with pride for our current military troops and love for those we remember on Memorial Day. The fundraiser was greatly supported by our residents and families! Sally Sperberg, Executive Director, said "hosting the fundraiser for our wounded troops at Spring Arbor of Salisbury was a privilege and an honor."
The Families of the Wounded Fund, Inc. provides financial resources in support of family members/caregivers of our military service men and women who have been traumatically wounded in combat operations or as the result of line-of-duty activities in support of combat operations. McGuire Veterans Hospital treats some of America's most gravely wounded service members. The severity of the wounds generally requires a family/caregiver to stay in the Richmond area for at least 4-6 weeks. These emergency stays have resulted in deep financial hardship for those who live far away. The Families of the Wounded Fund, Inc. helps with lodging, meals, childcare, and miscellaneous expenses. This assistance is available while patients are receiving prescribed medical treatment.
The Families of the Wounded Fund, Inc. is a nonprofit and a member of the 501 (c)(3); all donations are tax deductible. Their Federal Tax ID number is 32-0157288. ALL donations are greatly appreciated by our military families who have already given so much!!! Please make checks payable to: Families of the Wounded Fund, Inc. Additional information about this fund can be found on their website at www.fotwf.org.
