Alzheimer's Care
Special Care for Special People

When a loved one has Alzheimer's or a related dementia it can seem as though few options are available. As needs progress, the constant care and attention required can seem overwhelming. To meet this need, Spring Arbor has developed a Special Care Cottage specifically designed for residents with these unique challenges.

Special Care Cottages are available at these 5 locations:

Spring Arbor of Greenville Greenville, NC (252) 355-7003
Spring Arbor of Hickory Hickory, NC (828) 326-7200
Spring Arbor of Salisbury Midlothian, VA (804) 897-2727
Spring Arbor of Rocky Mount Rocky Mount, NC (252) 443-3999
Spring Arbor of Wilmington Wilmington, NC (910) 799-4999

As with our assisted living residences, great care was taken in the design of our Cottage and the services to be provided. Our philosophy begins with assumption that regardless of abilities lost, our residents still have the capacity and the right to continue to live, love and learn. From this foundation both services and amenities were built.

The result is a wonderful blend of security and comfort. For example, although the Cottage is keypad secured, the floor plan is flowing and open with only the entrance restricted to access. This allows our residents freedom of choice and movement while maintaining the need for a secure environment.

Likewise, despite the smaller number of residents, staffing ratios are much higher to allow for the additional time and attention needed. Team members who fulfill this important role receive additional specific training on how to support residents with mental frailties and the common tendencies that occur. The result is a team well prepared to meet a variety of needs and uniquely qualified to ensure Cottage living is more about celebrating what we can do rather than grieving over what we can't.

It has been said that often times it is the loved ones who suffer more than the actual victim of Alzheimer's or a related dementia. At Spring Arbor we truly believe that the families and friends of the some 4 million victims of this disease are our nation's quiet heroes. Regardless of your choice regarding the care of your loved one, we encourage you to seek out support as you take this journey. Good luck and God bless.
