A new study published in the online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, shows that walking at least six miles a day may protect brain health as individuals age. The thirteen year study, examining 299 cognitively healthy adults, found that those who walked the most reduced the risk of developing memory problems. Walking may protect brain size over time, in turn preserving memory and overall brain health. This could help prevent some early symptoms of dementia as it keeps your brain working, much like doing brain exercises such as crossword puzzles.
